Meeting Needs and Breaking Down Walls at Kodiak Crab Fest 2016
The first of many summer ministry projects was a success as our summer missionaries, interns, and staff descended on the island of Kodiak to serve the community and support multiple ministry partners during Crab Fest 2016. Your prayers for a fruitful work in Kodiak were greatly answered! Pastor Gary Elmore, AKMR ministry partner with Frontier Baptist Church in Kodiak, summed it up: "If you've never seen God's love in action, let me introduce you to Alaska Missions & Retreats."
AKMR served free cold lemonade and handed out bibles at Crab Fest, but we didn't stop there. Throughout the week, AKMR teams worked on service projects for local churches, families, and individuals. From splitting and stacking firewood, to staining decks, to house painting, AKMR showed its heart for service.
Opening Doors to the Gospel: Ministry Partnerships in Action At the end of the week, Frontier Baptist Church and AKMR hosted Burger Bash, a community hamburger and hotdog cookout. This free event was a prime opportunity to meet the Kodiak community and make personal connections.
Over 250 people turned in outreach cards at the event, including 30 with specific prayer requests, 15 seeking more information about Frontier Baptist Church, and 7 wanting to know how to become a Christian. Continuing the ministry partnership with the Kodiak Filipino Bible Church (KFBC), pastored by Jun Belen, the submitted cards were divided by ethnicity for further outreach, by both Frontier Baptist and KFBC pastors. The AKMR team with the Elmores also had the honor of worshiping at KFBC with the Filipino congregation Sunday before we left.
The simple act of serving in love once again opened doors for the gospel. AKMR was blessed to serve and encourage our Kodiak brothers and sisters in Christ!
