Nome Women's Conference: Anchored in Christ

3/24/2017

This year's Nome Women's Conference was unlike any Alaska Missions has hosted in the past. While lives are transformed each year, this conference marked a spiritual movement like never before among the Native Alaskan women. Our teams and staff were privileged to see God work!

Revival and Renewal

The theme for this year's conference was "Anchored: Navigating Life's Storms with Hope in Christ." Our speakers gave insights, truths, and tools for living an "anchored life," and God blessed participants and volunteers alike with a powerful movement of His Spirit.

Eleanor Roehl shared her visions for Alaska's revival movement and how alliances are being formed across the state to see a working of Spirit and Truth. In addition, Eleanor led a powerful worship experience as she shared her gift of interpretive Yupik dance and her songs "Revival," "Ride the Wind," and "Do You Hear What I Hear."
Bonnie Gregory gave a powerful personal testimony from her book "The Girl Without a Voice."

Freedom in Christ

Freedom in Christ prayer sessions were made available to local participants as well as our mission team members. Freedom in Christ facilitators included Kathy Sorrell, Corina Kramer, Brenda Crim, and Kathy Vonada. Many found emotional healing from past traumatic events. The sensitive nature of  the   stories and confidentiality of the process does not allow for us to share the full content of each individual story. However, we are thrilled to report that there are three locals in Nome who are trained to facilitate Freedom in Christ and are ready to take others through this healing process.

"We have transferred the model to the indigenous population, and I am aching to see how rapidly this expands," said Brenda Crim.

Arctic Hospitality

In true gratuitous fashion, the local ladies blessed our mission teams on Sunday night with a Native Alaskan food feast at the Nome Community Church. Happily and noisily, these women celebrated the Lord, His work, and each other.

As Brenda greeted one of her Native friends that night, Brenda told her it sounded like a hen house in there with all the cackling. Her friend responded, "No, it's like a duck island: the ducks know you're going to rob their eggs."

"Either way, you get the picture. I guess it just depends on where you're from: a farm in Texas or a village in Alaska!" said Brenda.
"Our visiting volunteers and locals found beautiful synergy and connection as intimate sisters in Christ."
-Brenda Crim, AKMR Executive Director
