Post-Camp Wrap-Up: 2016 Kenai Peninsula Sports Camp

The second annual Kenai Peninsula Sports Camp, sponsored by Alaska Missions, was a win all the way around.

Sports are a vital part of community life in Alaska, and providing a quality, affordable sports camp is an effective way to meet needs and break down walls on the Kenai Peninsula. The camp is held in June, is open to kids in Kindergarten through 8th grade, and only costs $10 per week! Other sports camps offered in the area cost in the hundreds of dollars. With 160 kids in Week 1 and 175 kids in Week 2, the response to our camp was once again amazing!

Mission teams joined us from Wayland Baptist University in Texas, the Kentucky Baptist Convention, First Baptist Church Mendenhall in Mississippi, and First Baptist Church in London, Kentucky! Most of these volunteers were athletes and coaches themselves, while others just love sports and serving the Lord.

"We could not have asked for a better group of campers or coaches this year," said Stuart Suddeth, AKMR staff and project coordinator for the camp. "Not only did the kids learn valuable skills in each sport, but we saw lots of heart connections as our volunteers and coaches shared the love of Christ with these kids."

Special Thanks

We could not do this work without the generous support of our local ministry partners! AKMR is grateful to Cook Inlet Academy and its principal Mary Rowley for hosting our camp at their facility, and to First Baptist Church in Kenai for housing our sports camp mission teams this year.

It sounds like everyone had a good time. I know it takes lots of work . I'm so proud of everyone there for doing such a good job.
I'm thankful y'all have a heart for all the children!
May God continue to Bless all your efforts!
