Bering Sea Cabin Update

Progress

Connecting the Norton Sound Region to Christ!

Alaska Missions owns a cabin just 33 miles south of the Arctic circle, east of Nome at Nuuk, on the Bering Sea. Nome serves as the hub for 15 satellite villages in the Northwest Arctic region. The vision for this cabin is to serve as a camp that will allow Native Alaskans from Nome and the surrounding region to have a place of retreat, fellowship, and experience freedom in Christ in a fresh, new way. We are excited about the opportunities this property offers to better serve the Norton Sound region.

Construction Progress!

At the beginning of the summer, the cabin stood framed in but far from completion. A small team of construction volunteers spent several days this summer moving the construction of this cabin forward. Their work included:
  • Painted the exterior;
  • Built oil stand/ladder and installed oil drum;
  • Replaced broken windows;
  • Finished out the second floor;
  • Enclosed and insulated the lower part of the cabin;
  • Completed exterior stairs;
  • Hauled in table, couch, and bedding;
  • Completed the kitchen with sink, stove, fridge, and storage;
  • Assembled a cross on the property; and
  • Repaired the two outhouses.

More Work Ahead

There is still plenty of work left to do for this property and cabin. Would you prayerfully consider joining us to complete the work of this vital resource and impact the Norton Sound region for Christ?
Some of the remaining work includes:
  • Finish out the inside paneling and flooring;
  • Trim around the windows;
  • Complete the purchase and shipment of remaining supplies and equipment; and
  • Complete finishings and painting.

Join us in 2017 to finish out
the Bering Sea Cabin!
