While in Alaska we want you to have the opportunity to experience the Lord through the beauty of His creation. We also want you to enjoy a day of rest and team building. The following resources are to give you some ideas of things to do while in Alaska!

HIKING

Winner Creak (Girdwood) - Fun, easy hike over wooden bridges, and while there, you can also take the tram to top of Alyeska.

Portage/Whittier --- You can hike to Byron Glacier and the boardwalk trail systems, view fish swimming upstream, or just relax at the portage lake! If you have time drive through the 2.5 mile tunnel to Whittier. Portage has a wonderful Visitors' Center with a 3D topographic map of the state which really puts into perspective the size and layout of Alaska!

Exit Glacier (Seward) - An easy hike to the base of the glacier but if you choose to go further in the hiking gets more intense as it goes deeper into the Harding Ice Field. Interesting ranger station at the start of the trail.

Russian River Falls (Cooper Landing) - This beautiful hike leads you up the mountain to the Russian River Falls. When they are running you can watch the salmon jump the falls. If you feel inspired you can hike up to the lakes.

Cooper Landing Hiking Options - Cooper landing is on your way down to the peninsula and is packed with a variety hiking options, including a hike to the beautiful Juneau Creek Falls.

FISHING

Halibut Fishing - Homer is the closet option for deep sea fishing. Ask Brenda for a referral if you'd like to take a charter.

Salmon Fishing - While in the Kenai/Soldotna area, find a public access to the Kenai River. You can also fish for Salmon on the Russian River in Cooper Landing (make sure you use Russian River flies).  Please note that Alaska Missions does not have equipment and/or gear to rent so please plan to bring your own or plan to rent some while here. There are places in Soldotna which rent for reasonable rates.

WILDLIFE TOURS

Kenai Fjords Tour (Seward) - One of the most amazing, affordable tours you can take. Over the years we have heard nothing but great things about teams who have taken this tour. Whales, Sea Lions, Puffins, Glaciers, and more - you will see it all!

Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (near Portage turn off) - See the wildlife of Alaska up close and personal from moose and bear to muskox and reindeer.

RIVER RAFTING

Six Mile Creek - Fast and fun this is one of the ultimate white water rafting experiences in Alaska!
www.novalaska.com/tour-list/six-mile-creek-rafting

Kenai River Float - With a more relaxed pace the Kenai River offers break taking views and the opportunity to spot a bear or moose! There are several reputable places which offer good floats on the Kenai. Please ask Brenda for a current recommendation.
