THINGS HAVE CHANGED FOR MARCH 2021
WE ARE HONORED to serve with Iditarod Trail Committee 2021. Due to Covid, volunteers have become highly restricted, and it is currently a privilege reserved for known and trusted leaders.
Join Alaska Missions in our sixteenth year at the Iditarod finish line. Our task is two-fold: reach the local musher culture as well as the musher sub-culture of Alaska. You will cheer on mushers crossing the finish line, permeate the volunteer force of the Iditarod, and help manage dropped dogs and race finishers. In the surrounding Willow community, we will conduct prayer walks, minister to local widows and elders and serve area mushers with service projects at their kennels. The ministry opportunities are endless. While in Willow, you will most likely see a member of our moose population which are prolific in the area--and if conditions are right, the northern lights!
During week two in Willow, we will have an additional task serving the Iditarod Finish. We also tear down the race finish line site and pack it away, aiding the Iditarod Staff in the culminating activities and celebrations of this international event. Several service projects are on the slate, too. We hope to melt hostility to Christianity by a model of generosity and service. Pray for mushers, dog handlers, and local community members to find Christ irresistible.
**2021 will hold several Covid Protocols issued by the Iditarod Trail Committee. Alaska Missions volunteers will be assigned a particular area restricted to our group. We plan to stay in our group's "bubble" while serving in this public event.
1. Upon arriving for a shift, each volunteer will answer a cover questionnaire (whether you have been exposed to someone who is Covid positive)
2. Every 72 hours, the Iditarod Trail Committee will rapid test each volunteer.
